We look back on this week, which for us was dominated by the symposium “Microelectronics research in Germany: from the basics to application”. For two days, around 200 stakeholders from research, industry, SMEs and research funding gathered in Dresden to discuss needs and ideas and explore potential synergies.

The focus was on a review and outlook of the completed and ongoing projects of the ForMikro funding line (BMBF), and the question of how different institutions can optimally work together on research topics was repeatedly addressed in the feedback rounds and networking sessions.

The second major block of topics revolved around the equally fundamental question of how everyone can work together to ensure that microelectronics can meet its demand for young talent. Is a change of image necessary? Do curricula need to be fundamentally dusted off? Or are there completely different places and opportunities where young people could or should come into contact with the topics? Conclusion: There is still a lot to discuss – and to do! We will certainly keep an eye on the daily soap from the clean room, the semiconductor sitcom or the chip crime scene 😉

Many thanks to all the bright minds who took part, to the sponsors, the moderators and the organization team!
